The Ethical Care of Carriage Horses
The Ethical Care of Carriage Horses
At Regency Horse & Carriage Masters, our horses are not just part of the business – they are part of the family. Every turnout, every event, and every ride is made possible by the trust and partnership we build with our horses. For this reason, their wellbeing is, and always will be, our top priority.

Time Off and Retirement
A Deep Bond Built on Respect
We believe in giving our horses a life filled with care, comfort, and companionship. The bond we share with each one is developed through trust, patience, and daily interaction – not just work. From grooming and stable care to turnout time and training, everything is done with the horse’s needs in mind.
Many of our horses have been with us for years, and some since they were young. We learn their personalities, their quirks, and what makes them happiest. This connection ensures that when they are called upon to take part in an event – whether a funeral, wedding, or special occasion – they are confident, calm, and cared for.
Living Conditions and Daily Routine
Our horses enjoy peaceful countryside surroundings, with large, well-maintained paddocks and stables. They have structured routines that include rest days, light exercise, grooming, turnout with companions, and time to simply be horses.
Every horse has access to high-quality feed, clean water, and regular vet and farrier visits. We do not overwork them – all schedules are designed around their health and happiness. A calm, well-rested horse is a happy horse, and you’ll see that reflected in every service they attend.

Gentle Training, Never Force
Our training approach is based on gentle handling, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Each horse is introduced gradually to carriage work, with plenty of time to get used to harnesses, sounds, and different environments.
We never rush or push a horse beyond its comfort zone. Some take to carriage work easily, while others need more time – and that’s okay. We work at the pace that suits them. Our Master Coachman, Dean Wiles, has years of experience and is highly regarded in the industry for his skill, patience, and horse-first approach.
Our Commitment to Transparency

We understand that horse welfare is an important concern for many people – and rightly so. If you're attending an event or considering our services, and you’d like to know more about how our horses are cared for, we’re always happy to talk.
In fact, we welcome visits to meet the horses and see their stables for yourself. We’re proud of the life they lead and the care they receive.
